Hi. I’m 45 years old and I’ve just been told yesterday that a lesion has been found on my liver. I’ve now got a hospital appointmnet with the gastric department in two days time. I have quite a bit of discomfort in my abdomen but no other symptoms. I’m so very worried about the diagnosis and prognosis. It sounds like a cliche, but you really never believe that these things can actually happen to you.
I’d really like to hear from anyone out there who is experiencing anything similar.

Hi
I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through.
The same thing has just happened to me. I’m also 45 years old. Went for an ultrasound today and apparently there’s a 2cm legion on my liver. There is also a 3cm one on my adrenal glands. I was told a report had been sent to my dr and I must speak to them urgently. He called at 6.30 to say he was arranging a CT scan for Monday. I have no liver symptoms and blood tests for full blood count, liver function etc are fine. I do have symptoms of an adrenal tumour however. I’m so worried it’s malignant and spread to my liver.
The waiting is the worst part.

Hi,
I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s all so worrying.
The doctor told me that they hadn’t found anything else on the scan and that my liver function results were normal. I have, however, got a lot of discomfort in my abdomen and i have little appetite and do generally feel unwell. We were initially looking at the possibility of a stomach ulcer but the h pylori test came back negative. I have read that you can have a negative result but still have an ulcer though. I’m hoping so much that the symptoms i am experiencing are from an ulcer and that my lesion is simply benign.
It’s just so terrifying. I can think of little else day and night. You are right that the waiting is very difficult. We will both hopefully know more on Monday. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Please feel free to message back anytime. Your response made me feel less alone in this.
Take care.

Thanks for the reply. Talking to others does make it less frightening.
Did you doctor say anything else? I was told there was a “moderate” chance it was cancer from the scans even though I have no liver symptoms. I do have symptoms from the adrenal gland and have done for a number of years however.
Wishing I could sleep!

It really is comforting knowing someone is going through the same experiences and emotions – especially in the middle of the night!
The doctor said that ‘she sees hundreds of these scans and in her experience there was a real possibility it could be something other than cancer, especially with my liver function being normal’.
My biggest concern at the moment is the level of discomfort in my abdomen but, as I said, I’m pinning my hopes on it being an ulcer. It’s all you can do really. Try your hardest to remain positive. Much easier said than done though when the fear takes over.
Have you just found out about the adrenal gland lesion too or was that found previously? I imagine when you’ve been told there’s a ‘moderate chance’ of it being cancer it’s possibly the doctor covering all possibilities no matter how unlikely.
It’s going to feel like a long time until Monday. My appointment is first thing. When do you have yours?

Not being the only one awake is a comfort!
Originally my doctor said the liver was probably a hemangioma as they’re common in women of my age. The first ultrasound lady thought it was benign as well. It was only the second scan today that they suddenly decided otherwise. The first was private as I was so worried with the waiting.
They think the adrenal gland might be a phaeocromocyta. This is meant to be very rare and only 10% are malignant. I’m pretty sure that’s what this is as I’ve had urine tests to confirm and have had severe problems with my heart and blood pressure spiking for a number of years. I’m just really concerned now tha it is malignant and has spread to the liver. But I’m still hoping it’s a coincidence that Inhave two benign masses.
The liver mass was there a year ago and picked up on an MRI at 1cm but was never followed up.
Can I ask how you generally feel unwell?
I haven’t had a time confirmed. My scan was at 3 this afternoon and the doctor phoned at 6.30 and said he’d push for them to fit me in on Monday.
sorry for such a long post.

I’ve probably spelt the adrenal thing wrong. It’s been a long day!

Hi, sorry for the delay. Your message only came through now.
It really is a comfort to not be the only one awake and worrying, especially with the storm raging outside!
Hopefully it really is possible to have two benign tumours at the same time. Logically i don’t see why that couldn’t be the case. 10% chance is really very hopeful. Try to keep positive if you can.
My ‘unwellness’ symptoms are discomfort in my abdomen (especially in the centre under my breastbone), some aches and pains all over but intermittent, tiredness!! , upset tummy and lethargy. I definitely know there’s something not right but just hoping it’s nothing too serious.
Don’t worry about the long post – it’s good to talk!

I’m still awake! Need to stop looking at google!
I have similar but mild symptoms of generally feeling unwell but put it down to a busy life. The symptoms associated with the adrenal gland are quite severe but infrequent but I believe would be the same whether malignant or benign. There’s really not much information about it…
I guess we really have to just wait until Monday but it’s so hard not to panick.
I hope you feel better and can get some sleep tonight.

My day was actually ok as I’ve felt a lot better and eaten a little more. Unfortunately I ended up feeling quite poorly with a lot of pain in my abdomen so it seems as if I’m struggling to eat without a lot of discomfort. Resulted in me being upset and worried all over again. I try to be positive but some of my symptoms are really worrying me. I feel a lot worse now than I did yesterday. Still hoping there’s a logical reason for it all.
It’s so difficult….

Sorry for not replying I couldn’t get my internet to work.
Its a shame you had a better day and now eating has made your symptoms worse. Are they sure it’s not your digestive system? It’s so hard to be positive when we don’t know the outcome.
The later it gets in the evening and the more I try to relax the worse it seems to be. I can’t keep myself distracted. I’ve got a good book and hope I fall asleep…
I hope you get some sleep as well. It seems ages away but it’ll soon be Monday.
