8 Easy Resolutions to Make in the New Year

While most people think of New Year’s as a time to overhaul their lives, a resolution doesn’t have to be huge to be effective. In fact, it probably shouldn’t be. The best way to accomplish your goals is to make progress a habit. When you build an action into a habit, minor adjustments to your everyday routine become powerful tools for lasting growth.
That’s why, instead of taking on a major change this January, make this simple commitment: “I’m going to do something every day to make myself better.”
Here are 8 simple habits you can add to your routine for an upgraded start to the year.
If you’re planning to ring in the New Year with a glass of champagne, plan ahead and pack some activated charcoal capsules for the road. It’s easy to cheat with alcohol, especially when it comes to social or business events. If you’re going to drink, aim for Bulletproof-approved spirits or wine and make it a routine to detox with charcoal each time you sip something that can decrease your performance. While it might not seem like a huge step, rewiring the way you think about your drinks will help keep your goals in mind while having fun. Plus, your mornings will thank you.
Sounds too easy, right? Eating unwashed produce (even organic!) exposes you to low doses of performance-robbing toxins such as glyphosate, pesticides, waxes, or anything they may have picked up during transportation or handling. Some leafy green vegetables, like romaine lettuce, have natural crevices that shelter bacteria and definitely don’t belong in your salad bowl. Make it a habit to wash all of your produce before you eat it.
Gratitude literally rewires you to become a more positive person. Taking a moment for gratitude or appreciation each day can boost your happiness and productivity, and reduce stress.[1][2] Every night before bed, think about three things you’re thankful for. You can also build gratefulness into your routine by keeping a journal, sharing with your family at dinner, or meditating on a thought while you make your morning coffee.
You’ve heard of the benefits of intermittent fasting, but something’s holding you back. Maybe you’ve been filling your diet with whole foods, but are still intimidated by a fear of starving at your desk till noon. Make it a goal to try Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting for one morning this week, where you drink butter-filled Bulletproof Coffee to keep the hunger away. Once you try it, you’ll see how easy it is to reap the benefits of ketosis without the crankiness and hunger of normal fasting.
Grass-fed meats are a pillar of the Bulletproof Diet, and one of the best things you can consume to prevent disease, manage weight, and improve brain function. As an added bonus, you’ll be supporting a more responsible and sustainable food system. Unlike grain-fed meats, they are high in healthy fats, and make a great source of omega-3s, antioxidants, and trace minerals.[3] If the price difference is holding you back, see if you can switch one meal a week, or start with just one item, like ground beef.

Though there’s no science to support this, listening to podcasts makes you a more interesting, well-rounded person. Podcasts make it easy to fill your downtime with fascinating topics. Plus, learning new information helps maintain your cognitive function and fight off degenerative mental illness.[4]Once a week, try switching your commute playlist for a podcast, or tuning in for an episode while you prep dinner.
Sleep is great, why not do it better? Good sleep makes you stronger, smarter, better-looking, and more resilient — yet most people are doing it wrong. Make this the year you hack your sleep, and build what you learn into your routine. Bonus points if you can stay off your electronic devices at least an hour before bed. Learn how you can hack your sleep.
Stress saps energy and focus, and consciously managing it can be a draining. Instead of putting it off, adopt a new stress-management technique that you actually enjoy. Challenge yourself to find some small way to bring a moment of calm into your everyday, whether that’s yoga, meditation, or a simple breathing exercise.
