To Never Settle Is to Win No Matter What
There are times in our lives when quitting seems like the best option. The pressure builds from all corners of the universe, and we lose sight of what to do next. Of course, this carries over into other areas of our lives as well.
Even when we begin to explore what we feel is the most important thing to us, eventually there comes a point of difficulty. The weight of adversity doesn’t go away when ‘doing what we love’ takes precedence in our pursuits.
There are still hard times ahead, no matter what move you make.
You will still have to fight through the temptations to settle with where you are, remaining comfortable. Because constantly moving forward means you’re constantly growing.
And while the growing pains will stay with you, they will never compare to the joy of progress, fulfillment, and meaning that comes with refusing to settle.
For some people, living a mediocre life is all that matters. They want to keep things the way they are and have always been. Any sign of change doesn’t sit well with them.
You can’t blame them completely.
But for others, the most important task is to do something that expresses value. Something that brings meaning to the chaos. They see change as a beacon of hope giving way to a brighter tomorrow.
When we settle, we consent to the notion that our lives should remain in the same phase, never improving or changing. We lose sight of the fact that change is good, especially when we prioritize growth.
Most of the time, though, the real reason people settle is because they’re terrified of taking risks. The thought of stepping out of their comfort zone prompts little room for acceptance as they fail to believe it’ll work out.
Then they justify their need to remain as they are by being as “realistic” as possible, not realizing sometimes change involves some unrealistic propositions.
To settle is to stagnate your progress. Nothing changes that way. Everything remains the usual, a cycle of unending boredom and despair.
When you aren’t making decisions that expand your horizon, you can start to lose trust in yourself. Being stuck in a phase can do that to anyone. Pretty soon you’re looking at life through the lenses of self-doubt.
The lack of risk-taking to see new realities come to life deflates your belief that you have what it takes to do more, to do better. That’s why it’s important to take those chances, to make moves that aren’t always easy and try new things.
The common action is to accept the first thing that comes our way. We refuse to examine it and ask ourselves if there’s more than this. Afraid of what it may produce in the future, we prefer to take the comfortable, less risky route.
Not to undermine the danger involved in stepping out of your comfort box, but people who see major breakthroughs take major risks. They understand that doing so brings the possibility of great rewards.
They also understand the potential of failing and have accepted it. No longer allowing the risks to hinder them from pursuing what matters, they continue to move forward.
Another consequence of taking the stagnant road is more words and less action. People on the lazy side are prone to speak more than they do because they’ve made a habit out of doing so.
Instead of getting to work, they insist on talking about what they want to do. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s perfectly normal, even helpful, to speak about what your dreams are in life.
But if words are all you present, you’ll never move any closer to your desired goals. You’ll forgo any possibility of reaching them because you weren’t willing to move, as scary as it may have been.
In the process, they gather their missteps, their shortcomings, and they improve. They take chances and reap the benefit of them.
They realize life is too short to settle for anything less than the meaningful things standing out to them. And that isn’t easy to do.
Anything worth having will take a ton of energy and attention to detail. But for those who really want to see progress, it’s worth every ounce of difficulty. To them, there’s beauty in the struggle.
No matter where you are right now in comparison to where you want to be, refuse to settle. Sometimes we consider the dark phases of our lives all that will ever be rather than trials of the journey.
It’s all apart of the process. The moment we accept that and carry on with the intent to win, we’ll come to see settling as the worst possible option.
