Hi, I am a 14 year old female and yesterday I ate a green unripe banana after I had my dinner at about seven o clock and later on about a couple hours later, I felt a lump in my throat that I thought was the banana. I have an inexplicable fear of vomiting and I drank quite a bit of water to try and dislodge whatever was in my throat and i had a spoon of liquid paracetamol as my mum thought i’d had an allergic reaction to an unripe banana as i had zero stomach pains. Today, the following day i felt a lot better but when i got up i felt the lump in my throat again so i decided to drink more water and starve myself as i didn’t want to aggravate my throat anymore or potentially be sick. So at midday i ate some toast in an attempt to dislodge anything in my throat and i felt better so i had a brunch of hashbrowns an egg and sausages, which i chewed carefully, and i felt better once i had food, but my throat still feels like it has food or something stuck in my throat. Any advice to what is wrong with me, have i had an allergic reaction to an unripe banana or do i have cancer or globus sensation or Cricopharyngeal spasm or is it not serious??

Hello
It is extremely unlikely that you have cancer in your throat. Cancer in someone of your age is quite rare and in the throat very rare indeed. I think it’s much more likely that the banana or something else scratched or irritated your throat and that this has remained a little swollen.
As you were able to eat a full meal without any problems it doesn’t sound too serious, but if you continue to have problems get in touch with your doctor just in case.
If you find you are unable to drink or swallow food at any point then get in touch with your doctor straight away or go to the accident and emergency department. Sometimes, if you have injured the lining of your throat the swelling can get worse before it gets better and in this case it would be important to make sure that you continue to get liquids and food inside you.
