Hi, I’ve only just joined but I wasn’t sure where else to ask for advice. I’m sorry this is long winded and I understand if nobody makes it to the end, I think I just need to get it out.
For months I have had blood in my stools, it has gradually gotten worse. Both bright red and darker. I saw a Doctor about 4 weeks ago, he examined me and said there was a small tear but unlikely to be causing so much blood. I’ve also been suffered with awful aches in my stomach and back, along with bloating. He referred me for an ultrasound however the sonographer only said he was looking for reasons for bloating, and checked my chest and checked uterus lining etc (??) He didn’t mention anything to do with bowels, digestive systems at all. The results aren’t yet back, but as my symptoms were worsening I called the Dr surgery and spoke to a different doctor, who said it will all be the small tear and basically not to worry. The blood is now containing clots, about the size of a 20p coin, twice a day. Along with family history of bowel cancer for at least 3 generations, and ruptured bowels for 2 generations, I’m obviously very unsettled and frightened. I guess what I’m asking is whether I should push to find an appointment with the first doctor I saw and to have this looked at further? It doesn’t hurt/sting in my bottom when I go to the toilet as I would expect with a tear. I truly don’t think a small tear is causing all of this, but being pushy isn’t in my nature so I wanted others’ objective advice.

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you are having and appreciate they must be a worry.
I’m afraid no one on the forum can tell you what the matter is but symptoms can be caused by lots of different things and most won’t be the result of anything as serious as cancer.
You have done the right thing by seeing your GP and it sounds like they examined you and arranged an ultrasound, which you are still awaiting the results from. Hopefully this will give the doctor some more information but if it doesn’t and the symptoms are still ongoing do speak to the doctor again.
I would explain the concerns you have with the doctor especially given your family history and see what they have to say. If the symptoms are worsening they may want to run some more tests but sometimes it can take time to get to the bottom of what the problem may be.
Try not to over think things for now but I hope you find out more soon.
