Hi,
my mum has triple negative breast cancer and there was residual cancer left in tumour and lymph nodes after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
She has been told just radiotherapy for “mop up”. I thought you were given Capecitabine as adjuvant chemo for residual cancer? The hospital have said this isn’t protocol for them, but I’ve seen a lot of posts on other forums of saying they were offered it and I’ve also read that after the CREATE-X trial, it was found to be beneficial.
Wondering if it is worth pushing for? Is this something she should be having?

I am sorry to hear about your mum’s situation. I can understand that it can be unsettling when you read about what other women are having to treat their triple negative breast cancer and you wonder why your mum is not being offered a similar treatment.
It is also the case that everyone’s cancer is so different ,but with the results of the CREATE-X trial it may be reasonable with your mum’s permission to discuss this with her doctors. There maybe a reason why her doctors are not offering her further chemotherapy but it is always worth asking. You could also ask if it would be possible, and if your mum wants this, to get a second opinion which you can read more about on our website here
I am not sure where your mum is living in the UK and whether she would consider a clinical trial if one was available. Trials have strict entry requirements and she would have to match all of these to be considered so they may not be suitable. We have a list of triple negative trials on our database but they are not open at all hospitals. Have a look at the trials here
