Hi
I’m trying to find a support group for women who have husbands with cancer, in order to understand the ways in which different women cope with the psycholgical changes we have to go through, as we watch our husbands experience this trauma. I am a woman of Indian origin so family life and a strong spiritual faith help me, but it is is a lonely process, which is why i would like to find other women who are coping and how they cope.

I’m very sorry you and your husband are on this journey but I’m glad you’ve joined us as you’ll find many of our members are in the same situation, so you’re not alone, and hopefully some of them will pop by soon to share their experiences and advice.
Taking care of yourself when supporting someone with cancer is very important and I’m glad to see you’re finding ways to do this but I hope this information I’ve found on how to support your partner will help you both at this time as well.

I see that one of our moderators Steph has posted some supportive information to you.
I’m not aware of any support groups specifically for women whose husbands have been affected by cancer. Support groups tend to be for people affected by varying types of cancers.
Macmillan Cancer Support have access to support groups in your local area. You can search for them by clicking here. Unfortunately,support groups are not in every area so it’s not guaranteed that you will find one that matches what you are looking for but you might do.
I don’t know if there is a Maggie’s Centre near to where your husband and you live. These centres offer free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friend’s. You can find a list of centres here on their website. If there is not a centre near you both, then Maggie’s online might be helpful for you both to contact.
If your husband has a specialist nurse involved in his care, they may be able to offer you both support and refer him for some counselling within the hospital to help manage his emotions. He could also go and have a chat with his GP to see what support is available locally in his area.
