hi so I was diagnosed in January with a small 16mm invasive ductal caricoma in my right breast i had a lumpectomy and snb in febuary and I’m currently going through radiotherapy at the moment. anyway 2 weeks ago my left arm started to ache a little I spoke to the breast care nurses and they weren’t overly concerned because they would of seen something in my left side when I had a mri scan in january she said if it persists to go to my gp 2 weeks later I’ve been to see my gp this morning he examined me and as he was he found a small lump in my left side in the exact same position the cancerous lump was found in my right breast I felt it too he said it’s like a chickpea size on the tail end of my left breast. he said he was concerned and that I could either ring the bc nurses and go through them or he will refer through the 2 week pathway again. I called them this morning and managed to get seen an hour later for an ultra sound before the doctor gave me the ultrasound the bc nurse examined me aswell and said yes I can feel the lump. when the doctor examined me he said I cant find the lump scanned me and said I cant find one to which I replied its definalty their I can feel it right now my doctor could and the nurse who agreed and said it was there he replied with itll be just thickening,so I’ve left the hospital abit unsure as I know cancerous lumps can be missed through ultrasound, I’m not sure what to do 3 of us have found and felt the lump its definitely their but he scanned me and says ther isnt anything I’m waiting for a call back from my doctor to see what he suggest I do hes very sympathetic and actually started to cry when he found the lump but im really worried and scared if its cancer then it wasnt ther in January or it was missed somehow and now it may be missed again

I am sorry to read about everything you have been going through. In situations like these it is frightening when you find a new lump, so I am not surprised that this has worried you. You have done all the right things getting it checked.
Although I can’t guarantee this, as you are currently going through radiotherapy treatment I would think it would probably be quite unlikely that what you can feel is a regrowth of the cancer or a new tumour. Usually breast cancers don’t regrow that quickly after being removed and you are in the middle of a course of treatment that usually would be expected to suppress any cancer growth.
It is also reassuring that the doctor at the hospital didn’t think it was anything to be concerned about after doing the ultrasound and examining you.
If it continues to give you problems get in touch with the breast care nurse again, but the good thing is that the recent examination and ultrasound didn’t show anything.

hi martin thanks for getting back to me the reason I am concerned is because the new breast lump is in the oposite breast to what I had the cancer in so even though I’m having radiotherapy that is to the right breast and it’s the left breast I have found the new lump in

Thank you for your post. I am sorry Martin misread your initial post and thought he lump was in the breast you were having treated.
I can appreciate that it must be very unsettling to be told that you do not have a lump when you and other health professionals have felt one All you can really do is wait until your GP gets back to you and you can discuss this with them. While it is fair to say that occasionally something can be missed, it is worth remembering that the breast clinic doctor is likely to be very experienced in breast examination, probably more so than your GP. But even if this is the case you have not really had an explanation that has satisfied you so your concerns are understandable.

hi thank you for getting back to me I’ve actually been back this morn to see my consultant he felt the lump which was good I’m not imagining it lol, been for another ultrasound and theirs nothing at all that can be seen so I’m happy at the moment their doesnt appear to any visible cancer and hopfully the lump will just disappear on it’s own x
