How Bone Broth Became Celebrity Trainer Drew Manning’s New Addiction
Drew Manning is kind of a legend in fitness circles.
A celebrity trainer, New York Times bestselling author and host of an A&E hit TV show, Manning is the creator of the Fit2Fat2Fit brand—a movement that he started after purposefully putting on over 70 pounds, then losing it all within a year.
The feat was impressive for anybody, especially someone who made health and wellness the cornerstone of his entire life.
Always a fitness junkie, staying in shape and eating a healthy diet had always come naturally for Manning, and he struggled to understand the plight of people who couldn’t take off the pounds. So Manning became a man on a mission. It was a mission to truly understand the struggles of being overweight and getting fit so that he could connect with his clients on all levels—physical and emotional.
The journey, he said, was humbling. He learned what it felt like to eat junk food all the time, not work out, and be overweight. He was lethargic, unmotivated to play with his toddler, and self-conscious. Within six months, he also developed a fatty liver, high blood pressure, and a food addiction that has been the hardest thing to kick.
But not all of his new food addictions have been bad. A proponent of the keto diet, Manning pushes a list of supplements that includes green juice, probiotics, and MTC oil powder that he doesn’t go a day without. Another food has come into his daily rotation: bone broth.
Since getting healthy again, Manning realized the wholesome, restorative benefits of bone broth. Since he’s one to do his research, Manning embarked on another challenge in November 2017—to drink bone broth every day for 30 days straight. The results, as he put it, “were astonishing.”
While there are a lot of bone broth products on the market, Manning said he didn’t start drinking it regularly until he discovered Kettle & Fire. “I didn’t have access to the healthy stuff before,” he said, meaning a long-simmered bone broth made with grass-fed bones and organic vegetables. It was a great discovery, and one that fits perfectly into his daily routine and life goals.
As part of the challenge, each morning Manning started his day with a cup of bone broth straight out of the box from the fridge. Within a week, he started noticing that his mood was improving. Within two weeks, his nails—which he has a bad habit of biting—started clearing up, and his skin had fewer breakouts. And by the end, he noticed less joint pain after intense workouts, particularly in his knees, which previously gave him grief after jumping or squatting. Daily bone broth has given him more flexibility and less soreness. What would typically be a three- to five-day recovery window for his knees was down to two days. That, he said, was the most notable and significant change. He also felt the effects of the bone broth reducing inflammation in his gut, which contributed to less bloating and improved overall digestion as a result.
Now Manning drinks bone broth regularly for all the reasons one should, including its restorative benefits for gut health, joint health, and autoimmune support. He drinks bone broth to get over colds and clear up his skin. He supplements with turmeric and collagen peptides to further aid healing in his joints and skin and to reduce any other symptoms associated with inflammation.
As someone who takes his health seriously, Manning is solidly on the bone broth wagon. It’s an important part of his entire holistic fitness and diet routine, which is about embracing sustained good health. And as one of the foremost authorities on what it means to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle, we are curious to keep following his journey to see what amazing things he discovers next.
