Hi.
I am 46 and new to the forum.
I have just been diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer. My tumour is large although I haven’t had an MRI yet and they said my biopsy was strange and showed some fatty material so I’m unsure . The consultant has said I should not focus on the size of the tumour as it is also the type and how they treat it and how different people respond . I didn’t want to know the grade but pretty sure it’s grade 3 because of size.
I will be having chemo with herceptin and perjeta for 6 cycles then mascetomy followed by radiotherapy.
I am also awaiting my CT results and I’m terrified . They have said I have a couple of swollen lymph nodes so I’m guessing it is in lymph nodes but I’m terrified it is everywhere ! I have had no symptoms but since the diagnosis I seem to have twinges , pain and aches that I’m thinking is all bad .
My Mum also had breast cancer in her 40’s but I’ve been told this is not hereditary.
it is very hard to focus on any positives right now and I can only see bad. losing hair , chemo , losing breast and feeling like I’ve been given a death sentence.
I can’t function and not interested in anything . Friends , family and my partner are so supportive but I don’t want to see anyone or do anything and I’ve done nothing but cry and be angry for the last week. Feeling like my life has been blown up.
it’s all so overwhelming. Any advice greatly recieved.

Hi barbirgirl46. I’m so sorry that you’ve found yourself on this site. I joined in February last year after being diagnosed with Her2 positive bc. It’s extremely hard to focus on anything until you have all your results. My advice to you is to be kind to yourself, allow yourself to feel what ever you feel and take time. I was a complete wreck until I started chemo. Please feel free to chat to me about anything and everything x. Mine was a large lump and had spread to my lymph nodes under my arm,I too had 6 rounds of chemo, 20 radiotherapy, surgery and I’ve got 2 left out of a further 12 chemo. Jenny xx

Hi Jenny
thanks so much for replying. I just feel like everything I knew is now gone. I’m just on hold and I’m struggling with it. I’m literally just trying to kill time and get through each day but I spend most of my time crying. I’m pretty sure mine is in lymph nodes as they said a couple look swollen and I’m hoping it is no where else but I’m imagining because of the size it is and it is consuming me .
how are you getting on now after surgery? So you are into second round of chemo?

Hi try not to worry,I also am HER2 positive I’ve had 6 months of chemo had lump removed and lymph nodes under my arm also,they removed all the cancer and now I waiting for radiotherapy then having chemo tablets for 8 months,so it’s not all bad and you do recover from it all.I did lose all my hair but growing back now,there are great wigs if you do lose you hair,there is light at the end of the tunnel and remember not every one suffers from the side effects x

I felt tired after chemo and lost my appetite,we all worry before but I’m so glad as it did shrink the lump and they then removed it,I wasn’t worried about losing my hair either.You will be fine just think positive.

I think that’s how most people feel, I know I did! I honestly didn’t know I could cry so much lol. You are going to be on a massive emotional roller coaster, honestly you will have great days, and not so great ones. Waiting is by far the worst part, once you have all your results you can start moving forward. Whe do you get your results? My lump was 54mm and I was meant to have a mastectomy, but the chemo completely got rid of all the cancer and I ended up only needed a lumpectomy and full node clearance. I had 20 lots of radiotherapy and now I’m having herceptin and pertuzumab.
Right now everything is so overwhelming, but you will be ok and it will become easier to deal with.
I’m doing really well after surgery thank you.
