I’ve done a whole blog post about how to make a homemade MRE, but I love them so much that I had to put it on this list. These homemade ration bars are awesome! I make a chocolate variety that my kids love. I also make peanut butter and raspberry versions which are both amazing. These ration bars are super easy to make! They store best in the freezer, but they can store on the shelf for around 1-2 weeks. They can probably store even longer than that, but they don’t last long enough in our household to find out! These are great camping and backpacking options.
Here’s my loose recipe for the peanut butter version:
You can add or subtract anything from this list. This is something that can be changed and made into your own version! Watch the video above to see how it’s done. Get adventurous and make them yourself!
This is one of my absolute all time favorite alternative cooking/heating methods. It’s extremely easy and cost effective. It creates a moderately sized flame that produces a lot of heat. This can be used indoors or outdoors.

Make anything and everything out of gorilla tape! There are so many things to make out of gorilla tape. In the video above I made cordage, a bowl and attempted a flip flop. The sky’s the limit when it comes to make stuff out of gorilla tape.

Or take two strands of gorilla tape and:
Watch the video above to see it visually being done.
The idea of the bug out box is to place some extra items into a box which you’d grab and take with you in an emergency. You could also store this box in your vehicle.
This box would contain extra useful items that might be redundant, something different, useful, backups, whatever. I used a shoebox size box, but you can use a smaller or bigger box, depending on your desires. Watch the video above to get some ideas.
So there you have it! This isn’t a complete list of DIY projects, but it offers some ideas. I’d highly suggest doing a DIY project at least once a month to keep your imagination and creativity alive. Think outside the box and have fun with DIY preparedness projects!
What are some other DIY prepper projects?
