Hi, 3 weeks ago I had a raised CA125 blood test, a range of symptoms being investigated) I had a scan at 15.00 and at 16.30 my GP rang to say they found a mass measuring 8cm x 5cm x 4 cm. Now referred to gynaecologist. No idea what to expect….

I’m not a doctor so cannot comment medically, but have had a similar-ish experience. I had a slightly raised CA125 reading & an ovarian cyst (30cm all round when taken out). Prior to surgery I had a CT scan to check dimensions etc, plus plenty more blood tests – My gynae surgeon told me that a raised CA125 isn’t necessarily dangerous, it can be raised by other factors, but of course it’s something to be looked at.
With regards the mass, I’d imagine they’d want to remove it, which could potentially be done via keyhole given the size. Mine was done as open surgery since it was massive! They will also probably do a biopsy to check whether it is benign etc. Again I can’t comment medically and your situation may be totally different to mine, but these are just things picked up from my experience.

Hello!
I’m near enough in that same boat – routine scan yesterday morning, by half 2 the GP was on the phone to say a ‘small solid mass’ had been found on my left ovary. Got to attend Monday to see gynae and have a CA – 125.
I hope you’ve not been doing what I have between rounds of crying and consulting with Dr. Google…! I don’t have any useful advice for you at this stage because I don’t know anything myself, but just wanted to reach out – you’re not on your own!

Hi Rowantree and Hannah,
I had ultrasound then MRI, showed large complex mass on one ovary and simple cyst on other, and had raised ca125, well over a hundred. They were both removed and biopsied as a I’m post menopausal, all turned out to be benign.

Oh, and a 3rd mass which imaging confirmed was a largish fibroid , not a cyst, which they weren’t worried about.
So as they say, raised CA can be due to benign things and cysts are often simple and even any complex ones are often benign especially pre menopause. I was post menopause so more at risk, otherwise they would probably have monitored for 3 months to see if they changed or went on their own, and would have left the smaller simple cyst. I had a long wait for appointments and then the MRI so my scans were spaced anyway.

Had been to doctor since teenager for 20 years with problems, gave up sometime in my mid 30s as I was told I would grow out of it.
I was referred due to post menopause irregular bleeding – that turned out just to be cervical polyps (also benign). Always had bad irregular bleeding, bad cramps, bloating before menopause, so sort of used to it. Finally diagnosed with endometriosis after the op to remove the cysts. Just recovering from surgery so will need to give it a few more weeks.
You can’t help but worry, but it’s good that they seem to take everything so much more seriously nowadays and work to rule out malignancies so they don’t miss anything, as they say 9/10 of the 2 week referrals are benign.
