My lovely partner has been diagnosed with throat cancer. We went for results of scans and told a very large tumour which can’t be operated on. As he can’t swallow and has lost so much weight he is having a feeding tube fitted to try and build him up before treatment. . As he has other serious underlying conditions they are only giving him 6 radiotherapy sessions over 2 weeks. It has also spread to one lymph node and the lung and they have mentioned chemo after a 4 week break. He didn’t want a prognosis but I’m thinking this is only palliative care and he hasn’t got long left I know I sound pessimistic and I’m positive in front of him but inside I’m breaking up. Wondering if anybody else has been in this position and how do you deal with it?

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly I’m very sorry to hear of what your partner and you are going through. I can only imagine how difficult this must be.
At the moment it sounds as if there is a lot of uncertainty in addition to what you know about what’s going on. Hopefully you will be able to find out a little more about this so you know what you’re dealing with, and the next steps involved.
Try to get the information you need and in the meantime take things a day at a time – as cliched as this is – and get any support you need too. Hopefully there are others around you that you can speak to about this. We are also always here on this forum for support at any point, or even if you just need a safe space to write things down.

Hi Ben
Thanks for replying. We are waiting at the moment for a bed in the hospital so he can have feeding tube fitted as not swallowing well. It’s good advice to take one day at a time but it’s a really scary time. Just feel very sad as Chris is my best friend and soulmate. I feel our whole lives have been turned upside down.
