Primal Gear Unlimited Compact Folding Survival Bow Specifications:
I recently had the pleasure of reviewing the Primal Gear Unlimited Compact Survival Bow. Be sure to scroll down to view the full video review! This is a sweet little long bow in a really interesting package! The premise behind this bow was to create a bow that would be highly effective and yet easy to break down and store in a small size for transport. Primal Gear Unlimited has met or exceeded their initial goals in every category if you ask me!
The Compact Folding Survival Bow can easily be taken from its storage position (seen above) and opened up and strung and ready to shoot in under a minute. Primal Gear Unlimited offers several draw weight selections that range from 40 to 65 pounds. We choose to get the 40 pound model since my oldest son is just learning to shoot. For him this bow was perfect! Having a slightly shorter draw length that 28″ means that he is pulling about 30-35 pounds. Also from a Bug Out or emergency preparedness perspective where a person may be forced into hunting for small game for food, this survival bow is perfect. Even the 40 pound limbs are powerful enough to take down a whitetail deer with a well placed shot!

The only suggestion for improvement I have is very small because overall I think the design is amazing and highly practical. But if the manufacturer could include a couple of string nocks with the package that would be great. When you order the bow it doesn’t come with any sort of string nock already placed on the string. Which I totally understand. There are a variety of models types and some people may just shoot without them all together, so I get why they don’t place them on the string at the factory. But having a couple in the package so that the user could throw them on when they get the bow makes a lot of sense to me. The price is already set to a very low margin so I realize this may increase costs slightly, but at $149.00 for the bow and string the price is already ridiculously low so raising the cost a few bucks wouldn’t hurt at all and would probably please a lot of buyers.

Shooting this bow was fun and easy! I especially like that it was forgiving enough that I would shoot it with regular work gloves on. My son shot it using a release and had no trouble with it at all as well. We started the day shooting at 10 yards and were easily able to shoot within the kill zone for a whitetail deer right out of the box. With some practice we were placing tight groups with ease. Then we backed up to 15 and 20 and 25 yards. Even at 20 yards I was still able to consistently put arrows in the kill zone of my target. I did have the occasional flier but that is to be expected since I do not regularly practice at instinctive shooting. Shooting at 20 yards was a bit too far for my son, but he is still very new to shooting, though he was also able to make several well placed shots from time to time. At 30 yards I was at my personal limit and capability to hit the kill zone consistently. I could hit it about 2 out of five times with this 40 pound long bow. I would imagine that even the folks at Primal Gear Unlimited would agree that 30 yards is about the limit for most people to shoot a 40 pound long bow with no sights. However, even at this distance that arrows were still getting excellent penetrations. But I did have to allow for considerable elevation change when shooting. Meaning that I was aiming over the top of the target’s back by about 18 inches. But that is all to be expected for a bow with this light of a draw weight. Does one really ned to be able to shoot at 30 yards when deer hunting and small game hunting? No not at all. I have killed more than a handful of deer and all mom the deer I have ever shot with at 20 yards or less. Many of them within 10 yards. Overall, I was extremely impressed with how the bow performed. It was fun and easy to shoot and is a tool that could be highly useful in a grid down situation!
