Almost six months ago , at the end of November I noticed a lump on the ulnar side of my wrist . I’m a 17 year old girl but I made an appointment with my gp. He said it’s probably just swelling and gave me an anti inflammatory and told me it would go away in a week. He also said it might be a ganglion cyst ? The lump isn’t painful to touch and isn’t visible when my arm is straight , only when I flex it backwards . If I overuse that wrist , the wrist might start to pain but not bad I’ve never had to take painkillers etc for the pain . I’ve also kept an eye on the size with a ruler and it has always been 3cm x 2cm and hasn’t grown. It looks smaller some days and the size fluctuates. I can’t seem to tell if it’s mobile or not , but it’s not hard . I am a hypochondriac and a bit of a carcionophobe so I have really dark days thinking about it when my anxiety is bad . I went to a pharmacy and the pharmacist said it doesn’t look “sinister” to her and suggested a ganglion cyst also (it just doesn’t really look like the images of a ganglion cyst) . Should I be worried or am I overthinking ?

Hello. Why don’t you trust what your GP has said and also reiterated by the pharmacist. You state that you are a hypochondriac therefore joining a cancer forum is only going to fuel your anxiety.

No worries I appreciate you taking the time to answer lynne. I suppose i just didn’t feel very understood and the answers were very vague. I think I’m just desperately looking for reassurance as I feel with any lump or bump maybe there should be an ultrasound / ct etc instead of just looking at it? It was on this forum that a girl with a similar issue on her leg said that soft tissue sarcomas were often misdiagnosed so maybe I’m paranoid? Thanks again.

I’m sorry you’re so worried and that you also have bad anxiety which must be very difficult to cope with.
No one here can say what your lump is, though it’s great you went to a GP and pharmacist and that both of them did not think this was something to worry about.
If you’re still concerned you can always go back to the GP and have a chat about your concerns.
If you have anxiety it’s best not to look at google, as it will only exacerbate your anxiety without being able to ever diagnose a condition.
So try and not worry about this and talk things through with your GP, perhaps also addressing the health anxiety.

I agree completely with googling being the worst thing I can do , family members tell me all the time , but it’s like I can’t help it.
maybe when all the Coronavirus stuff is over I’ll go back to my gp one last time.
I looked at the website you suggested and it very much seems like health anxiety is what I’m suffering with more than anything. Thank you so much again.
