Instead, you will have to download the completed state tax return as a PDF file, print it, sign it, and mail it to the respective state – the address is on the PDF file. As you proceed through the tax interview on efile.com, the application will select the correct state forms for you. You can also select tax forms individually. If your Vermont state return was rejected by the state and not efile.com, you will receive an error reject code. If you are certain that you cannot file your Vermont return by the deadline, you do not need to file for an extension. You will automatically receive a 6-month extension of time to file your return (not to pay). The extended tax return due date is October 15, 2019. Please be aware that Vermont will not accept the federal extension form as an extension for your Vermont tax return. However, if you expect to owe income taxes, you should submit your payment with payment voucher Form IN-151. Vermont has a 6% general sales tax rate, which is imposed on amusement charges, sales of tangible personal property, some public utility charges, fabrication charges, and some service contracts.

Personal property taxes in Vermont are imposed at the local level. The taxes collected support education and municipal services.
Taxpayers in Vermont no longer have to file Form HS-131, Homestead Declaration, annually. Once they file the form, it remains on record until the home is sold or there’s a change in the homestead’s use.
Form HS-145, Property Tax Adjustment Claim, assists VT residents to pay their property taxes. This form must be filed for every Tax Year. Eligibility requirements include proof of homestead ownership, use of the property as a principal residence, and residency for the full Tax Year. You also must meet household income criteria.
Individuals who earned income from being in a commercial filmed in Vermont can receive an unlimited tax credit. The credit amount is the difference of the tax on the commercial income (at his or her state of residence’s highest personal income tax rate) and Vermont’s income tax rate.
