Hi everyone! Regular pain in the backside here but I had my results the other day and my breast cancer was found in my lymph nodes so the plan has now changed to chemo before radiotherapy. I had my appointment through this morning for the oncologist and it’s not until the 7th November. Just wondering roughly when your treatment started after seeing the oncologist?
The breast nurse said they’ll need to do scans etc before I can start treatment (heart kidneys etc) so I’m kind of sitting here thinking wow so it could be a while before I actually get chemo?
thanks so much in advance for any replies. I drive myself nutty sometimes haha x

Hey
Welcome to the forum , sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but you have come to the right place for support. I was diagnosed with bc in March have had 6 rounds of chemo and have a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction on Monday followed by radiotherapy at some point.
So my experience is that everything takes two weeks. Do you know what scans you are having? I had an mri, a ct scan and a pet ct scan. My chemo was delayed as my scans picked up that I had appendicitis so had to have my appendix removed and healed be DH ore chemo could start. That being said it would have started within a week of seeing the oncologist.
The waiting is the hardest part, once you start your treatment things will settle down. Let us know how you get on,

Thanks so much for the reply! I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal 3 weeks ago. Good luck for surgery on Monday. How are you feeling about it? I was meant to have a reduction at the same time but asked if I could have it after I’m finished treatment as my partner is working away and didn’t want a longer recovery time. Thinking back now though I should have just had it done!
ive no idea what scans I’ve to have, the breast nurse said it’ll be full organ scans to make sure everything’s fully functioning. I think I’m just worrying. 3 weeks away for the oncologist then have to wait for scans and results and then a plan will be made for chemo. Seems very drawn out . I have no patience as you can tell lol xx

hey
I am feeling quite anxious, as it’s such a long operation. I will be in hospital for at least 5 days.
They May get your scans in before the oncologist appointment. Might be worth giving the breast nurse a call to see if you will get them before. Sounds like a ct scan if they are checking your organs. If they thought you needed to start more quickly they would push everything through. Also it gives you some more recovery time from your op.
If you need any dental work doing get it done before your chemo starts, also will you lose your hair? If so you could book a wig appointment. Start to get things in place before you start.
Hope it all starts falling into place soon.

Hiya! I’m having 6 cycles / 18 weeks. FEC for the first 3 then FEC + taxol for the last 3.
first day without steroids and I’m a bit meh today. Stomach acid pain and thrush in my mouth so waiting for the go to phone back after the oncologist nurse has passed on what I need. Still not bad overall though!xx

Hi
well done for getting your first one under your belt. I had the same chemo and the same side effects you describe. I ended up being prescribed something for both and it sorted it out. I also found icy cold drinks help with the sore mouth. Do you have to have an injection into your tummy as well from day 3, I found that this made me a bit achy and fatigued. After a week I was back to my normal self again. The last three cycles the achiness was worse so I ended up with some painkillers for those 3 cycles.
Hope you get it all sorted.

Good I’m glad you got it sorted out. My taste buds stopped working when I had chemo and jr hey still are not back fully, I can have chilli and not even taste it, where I hated it before because I didn’t like things too spicy.
I’m ok, had to go back for a couple of tidy up operations, but I seem to be in the mend now. Next step is radiotherapy. I’ve had 3 whole days without a hospital appointment which is unheard of.
When’s your next chemo?

Hiya sorry for the late reply. I’ve had a stay in hospital with Neutropenic sepsis. Ugh. Wasn’t feeling great and coughing, temp spiked a bit so hospital wanted me in. Said if I’d left it any longer I probably wouldn’t have made the trip. On the mend now and I’ll be getting bone marrow boosters for 10 days after every chemo now.
my next one is a week today so hoping the next one goes a little better lol x
