Below Are My Top 10 Suggestions For Controlling Traffic If SHTF
There are a wide variety of disasters that could potentially effect anyone of us and we should stop and spend some time thinking how we could potentially redirect, divert or detour traffic from coming in or around our homes if the situation got bad enough. In the video below I talk about what I think are the Top 10 Ways To Control Traffic If SHTF. If you prefer to read I have the ways typed out for you below. Also feel free to print this page as a .pdf file and include it in your emergency binder as well to give you ideas should you ever need them.

In stuff hits the fan ( SHTF ) situations, vehicles can drive over curbs, through front yards, and around roadblocks. Plant ( evergreen, pine, etc. ) trees around the inside of the property line all around except the driveway entrance. This controls vehicle entry/access. This needs to be done long before SHTF. Then control driveway access at time of SHTF. This is defense in depth or jawbreaker security or whatever you wish to call it. You should still employ the measures listed here as well to provide security from a greater distance. Additionally those nails may not stop the approach, but may prevent or slow the getaway/exfil process. The attackers may drive in, but may not necessarily be driving out. Sweeping away the nails may be impractical for a fast infil. The nails are small enough to go unnoticed by those with less attention to detail and awareness.
Additionally evergreens are a good windbreak in winter. Deciduous trees are good shade in the summer and are best planted further inboard from the property line. See Pg. 106 of “Tom Brown’s Field Guide – City and Suburban Survival” for more on these. He also has a wilderness survival version that’s probably the best book on the subject. It’s best to keep all trees at least 30 feet away from any house, building structure, etc. for wildfire reasons. http://www.firewise.org now redirects to another website but still has more info on this. It’s against the law to have a fence that harms people who try to go over it. It’s not against the law to have thorny bushes all around the property line too. In ROL, criminals are paranoid of forensics getting a blood or skin sample, so most will not cross such bushes or “take on the dog”. Small dogs are good emp/cme/grid down- proof alarms.
Good stuff! Thanks for adding your thoughts to the conversation!
Your Welcome, sir! I have a request for a youtube video and article here on realitysurvival.com ( wilderness Survival category? ). I have literally watched every youtube video you have and read part of this site. I downloaded, read, and agree with your survival e-book ( I have the training too, and dirt time, and have had navigation issues on the trail ). This is entirely your choice of course, but I wish you would do a youtube video/ realitysurvival.com article on your survival experience with that blizzard as you and your friends ( I saw the picture you posted from before the blizzard hit ) navigated off of Mt. St. Helen’s using a button compass. There is compass training for a map compass, and directions for a compass like the Suunto M-9 ( that I EDC with a 20mm Nato watch strap, I saw and also agree a navigation quality compass is better ), but I have seen nothing on navigating with a button compass. Did it have a baseplate and rotating compass rose like in one video you did or was it basic like the video on the CRKT ( altoids tin sized ) mini survival kit? What were your methods and techniques of navigating with it? I would also like to see many of the videos on your list ( per the comments of some videos ), but this would be the video/article I most wish to see.
Thanks for the request! I will add it to the list!
