Hi,
I’m sue and I’ve been diagnosed withTriple Negative Breast Cancer. I’m having my first Chemo session on Friday and am terrified. Has anyone been successfully treated with this condition as the internet is a really scary place.

Hello love,
there are extremely good outcomes with treating trip neg, the internet seems to only like to dish out the worse case senarios, have you thought about joint a trip neg forum? There’s nothing quite like chatting to other ladies in the same boat…have a look at the breast cancer uk site…loads of good info on there, it’s not all doom and gloom…
will you be on fec chemo first? I got myself worked up in such a state on my first….honestly? It was an anti climax! They pump you full of good stuff, I almost skipped out thinking….hell…I can handle that!! Ok….you get the drop later but your home and simply go to bed…
have you had your pre chemo assessment day yet? Will you be cold capping? Xx

Hi Maryln, thank you for your reply. I have my pre assessment on Thursday then chemo on Fri. I am having the cold cap but not sure if it will work. I spend most of my time in tears but I am trying to have a positive outlook. How are you doing now?

I found the pre chemo assessment day very reassuring. I chose not to cold cap, it’s pretty much 50/50 , although I do know of a couple of ladies it worked very well for…worth giving it a go I suppose…I suffer dreadful headaches and I think the cold cap would have played havoc with that!
Iv finished chemo and rads now, I’m on herceptin 3 weekly and various meds….I’m doing ok. You’re right at the very beginning of your journey. Where it all seems just impossible and like it will go on forever but I’m here to tell you it does finish, there is light at the end of the tunnel….I promise! When it all started for me I thought my world had ended, it all seemed relentless…but here I am….with some good hair growing too!
Do you have support at home? Can you take someone with you to chemo? I promise you will get in a routine with it, I wrote a chemo diary, it helped me. And don’t be afraid to ring the chemo help line ( I had it on speed dial)!
You will get through this, take it day by day and listen to what your body is telling you, don’t plough through if your body is saying rest….here anytime if you need a chat xx

Hi, yes my husband is very supportive and coming to the pre assessment with me as well as my first chemo session. I’m really trying to be positive but it’s not easy
I know most people only post online when things don’t go to plan but it’s really helpful to read success stories. Thank you for your support, it means more than you could possibly know xx

I’m glad your hubby is going with you, chemo days are defo boring! Don’t forget to take mints with you, if your having fec your taste goes haywire during chemo ( and after)! The mints help….here anytime love…just holler…..xxx

Hi I was feeling exactly the same as you when I was diagnosed at the age of 48 with Triple negative grade 3 and that was October last year.
I had 6 rounds of chemo and then surgery which was a bilateral lumpectomy, I also had to have a full axillary clearance as a preventative measure, I had 19 nodes removed and only 3 were cancerous.
I have only just finished my treatment within the last few weeks and am now recovering from the radiotherapy which hasn’t been a nice experience as I’m very sore and blistered and it’s very uncomfortable.
It has been a very long 10 months for me with constant appointments and tests and even more difficult with 3 children to look after and make arrangements for while I’ve been having treatment.
I am currently cancer free having had a complete response to the chemo and after my surgery my margins were also clear.
I try not to Google anything about Triple negative anymore as as you say it is all negative and outdated and there are success stories out there.
I still worry myself even though I have finished my treatment but I think once you have had a cancer diagnosis it does change your life in many ways.
I had a genetic test done as advised by my consultant because of being under 50 at the time of diagnosis and unfortunately I have the Brca 1 gene which increases my risk of a further breast tumour and also of ovarian cancer which my mum died of.
I’m now planning 2 further surgeries next year to reduce my future risk.

Try and think positive and rest when you need to and just listen to your body.
Chemo is entirely doable but the biggest issue for me was my thinning hair which is slowly growing back and it also affected my nails badly. I did also suffer with fatigue so its advisable to stay well hydrated throughout your chemo session and afterwards.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I’m so glad that you’re now cancer free. It makes the last 10 months worth while. I’m booked in for the genetic test in October but I’m trying to take each day as it comes. As you say, a cancer diagnosis changes your whole outlook on life.
Good luck with your next 2 surgeries, I hope you have a very speedy recovery.

Thanks for that. I’m trying to not to think to far ahead myself but Im constantly being bombarded with new things to think about and the ovarian issue kept being mentioned while I was half way through my breast treatment and I couldn’t cope with that. I had a Ct scan at the time of diagnosis to check all that side of things were ok which they were and do I’m holding onto that hope when I have my gynae appt in September.

Hi Sue,
My mum has triple negative breast cancer at the moment and is currently undergoing treatment.
Her cancer is responding to chemo and she will have some surgery once it’s all done. Her tumour has already shrunk after 7 weekly treatments of paclitaxel, so there is definitely good news

Hi,
I have triple negative breast cancer. I’ve just finished chemo & will have a double mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction in a few weeks.
Chemo is totally doable. I have a 2yr old & a 7yr old and they were the hardest part of it all.
Chemo made me so fatigued and each type of chemo gave me different side effects.
Are you doing Carboplatin/Paclitaxel and then FEC?

Hi ladies,
Thank you for sharing your stories. I was diagnosed last week so waiting on chemo dates etc. I have a couple of scans coming up and a telephone consultation to see if I qualify for the gene test which seems a bit odd, not sure what else to say apart from what my doc has told me.
I’m glad to hear you are doing well and coming through the other side. My one friend said just take it one step at a time rather than thinking about it all otherwise it will be overwhelming! She had BC 10 years ago and is doing well
