We know it’s a worrying time for people with cancer. Please read our information about coronavirus and cancer alongside this page. If you have symptoms of cancer you should still contact your doctor and go to any appointments you have. Spotting cancer early means treatment is more likely to be successful.

Hi, this is my first post.
I have had painful cysts for the last four years and had a clear no probs mammogram four years ago. Recently I went back to get another mammogram just for peace of mind as a sibling had breast cancer and mastectomy two years ago. I then had to have a second magnified mammogram which was referred for biopsy. The nurse showed me the mammogram image of irregular shaped microcalcifications in what looked like two different clusters. I had a core needle biopsy and have just had a letter for an appointment for the results. Due to coronavirus my letter also contained another letter suggesting the results would be given by virtual appt. Thinking this would be a good sign I phoned just to check if it was a virtual appointment only to be told that everyone else that day had a virtual appointment but me and I had to attend a face to face meeting. So now I’m worried and don’t know what to think.

Welcome to the forum May although I’m sorry to read what’s troubling you.
I know it’s difficult given what you were told but try not to jump to any conclusions if you can. I’m not sure when your appointment is but I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we’ll be thinking of you. I’m sure some of our members in a similar situation will pop by soon to offer their support and advice as well.
Fingers crossed everything will be o.k.
Kind regards,
Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

Hi May567
The waiting is always the worst part because your mind goes into overdrive! Hopefully for you everything will be fine, but if it isn’t, I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago, and have found these forums so helpful and supportive. You don’t think you will cope with whatever is thrown at you, but you do and you do find the strength that you never knew you had!
Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

Thank you Sunshine, I’m so sorry for your recent diagnosis, I hope you are getting the treatment you need considering the current climate. You’re right this forum has a wealth of knowledge and has really helped me to understand the procedures and terminology, if the outcome is not in my favour I will be so much more prepared than I would have been.

Hi, I’m in the same boat as you.
I got diagnosed with dcis in feb and have had the mammogram and mri which came back inconclusive..they found other bits so referred back for ultrasound and biopsies which I had done on the 7th
I had 16 in total and a aspiration on what she thought was a cyst…
I had a telephone appointment for tomorrow which got changed on friday to a face to face appointment at the hospital…and now I’m flapping about what their going to why do they want me to go to the hospital when everyone else is getting telephone appointments??

Hi all, well I had the dreaded face to face appointment and was expecting the worst.
They actually found nothing in the left boob and the top of the right one is ok…just the bottom and nopple that is buggered.
He just wanted to see me because he hadnt met me and to go through treatment options and examine me.
Anyway got to have a mastectomy in the next 2/3 weeks so just waiting for a date x
So wasnt as bad as I was expecting and come out feeling confident after surgery it will all be taken care of x
Good luck to you all tomorrow x

Thank you, unfortunately I have medium grade DCIS and have to have a mastectomy. I was half expecting it from looking at my mammogram images. I know it’s early days and I have a lot of info to come but I am upset I can’t get reconstruction due to Covid, maybe have to wait up to a year. I’d like a double mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time to reduce health risks and recovery time, but I don’t think NHS will do it as I already asked. I am wondering now if I can go private when the NHS are back to normal and are out of the private hospitals. I don’t want to get it in the other breast or for them to not look the same. What a lot to think about!

Hi may, sorry to hear that you have dcis, that is what I have but mine is high grade.
When have they planned your mastectomy for? Mine is in the next 2/3 weeks and have said they will do reconstruction after this covid virus is over x
I’m looking at it that at least it will be out of me and then I can get on and think of reconstruction at a later date x
Sending much love, try to focus on the fact that you know what your dealing with now and can start fighting it xx
