Hey everyone, I’m really sorry if it seems I’m just being paranoid but I’ve been a light smoker for three years now (5-8 a day) and have only noticed in the last few weeks that there’s white on the back of throat, sort of like patches. There’s also one or two at tops small bubbles that are slightly pink in colour. I’m 20 years old and I’m a transgender man (Female at Birth, not Transitioned yet) so I understand throat and other oral cancers are relatively rare, and even more so for my age and sex at birth, but I’m terrified. I was told months ago I had an infection and was given antibiotics, which made the white spots go away on my tonsils but the whiteness on my throat is the same. I feel no lumps, no pain, and I’ve read the symptoms and wouldn’t say I have them. I know no one here is a doctor and I’ve made an appointment with my own GP to get it checked out and talk about mental health and anxiety issues as logically I feel it probably is just my paranoid getting the best of me.
Any advice or reassuring words?? Has anyone else had this problem?? I plan to quit smoking again this Monday, and quit for good, as I know it’s best to do now that I’m still young so I can decrease the risks in future. But I’ve known a lot of good people to pass due to cancer and my grandmother passed away not long ago due to a heart attack caused by smoking, so when I noticed this in my mouth I immediately thought of the word “cancer” and now I can’t stop. Any help would be so appreciated.
