I have got myself worried sick from googling too much! (I have chronic health anxiety)
About 2 months ago I would randomly wake at night feeling shaky, nearly like I was too hot/cold at the same time. It was weird but only happened randomly so I never thought too much of it.
2 weeks ago I woke hot and sweaty and my temp was 38.2. I went to the doctor and she said my tonsils were swollen with puss on them and I def had tonsillitis (even though I had no throat pain) she put me on antibiotics. She took bloods and a throat swab. Bloods were normal and the swab was clear. Since then I dont see any puss on my throat and dont have any other symptoms apart from I keep getting random low grade fevers! I seem to go a few days with no fever then it comes back again, it makes me feel so uncomfortable and keeps me awake at night.
Of course google has scared me silly! I cant see a doctor for a few days and I’m trying to keep it together but its hard. Im currently on holiday with my kids and this is all I can think of. Everything I read online points to random fevers being a really bad sign. Has anyone experienced this? Im so scared

Welcome to the forum. I am not a doctor, but know that my siblings and my children had a number of low grade fevers when they had tonsillitis. Perhaps this is all that is wrong with you too?
The worst thing you can do with something like this is to consult Dr Google. Stay away from him as much as you can. Much of the information here is out of date, poorly researched and, aimed at the spectacular – it can have you in a box before you even cough!
Do please go back to see your GP, even if you have to wait a few days. Try your best to enjoy your holiday with your kids. There is no point in ruining a good time with ‘what ifs’. Time enough to worry if the worst comes to pass and something sinister is found. At the moment, it looks as if there could still be a simple solution.

Hi Smoore,
Google is a sure fire way to convince yourself that your seriously ill, especially when you suffer with health anxiety. There are some tips for dealing with health anxiety here if you’ve not already been signposted to it.
In the meantime, while you wait for your appointment, try to busy yourself with things you enjoy doing – and try to stayaway from the internet.

Do you have any other symtoms? I have fevers after doing little walking of 10 mins or housework of 39 sometimes 40 and when resting mostly 38 or 38.5. The only restbite i get is the mornings. My fever goes up throughout the day and seem to suffer in the night. I have excessive sweating due to the fevers. All my bloods are normal except slightly raised blood count and immflamatory markers were slightly raised not enough to indicate infection. Ive had urine cultures which negative. I feel tired constantly and i recently had a episode of chest pain which came on suddenly lasted about 10 mins. I have shooting pains in the neck and under arm on left side but no lumps tp be felt. I have had left sided flank pain since october thats where it all started. I had a week where i itched every where but after antihitamines i only itch on my neck all over now. No rash. Ive lost a dress size amd a half since october. Ive been by heamtology consultant who dismissed me because bloods were ‘normal’. GP feels i am showing b symtoms of lymphoma. Hope it all gets sorted. I know this is scary but it could just be from the infection. It can stay in the system for a few weeks. Keep an eye on it. If you are getting ill more often and taking longer to get over the illness go to GP.

Hi hi when we get infections our bodys heat up naturaly to try and kill infections maybe your not quite clear yet anxiatys very underated people think is that all but its horrible .if you feel like its hijacking your life maybe just have a word with your gp eh throat infections can hang on as we eat food and it can get trapped and keep of the google if you can it can be very helpfull but seems it effects you so try not to worry its difficult i know butknowing you have it your hafway there to getting rid i get them i i have crohns disease you could have hormone imbalance your gp will sort it out .best wishs to you p

Hi if i were you i would go see another dr they are two keen to dismiss things now . As ive told lady on this thread i have crohns after the third infusion of infliximab i i start getting breathing problems for about a year even go a sermon in a/e at a hospitall all my bloods good blood oxigen levels ok its anxiaty in the i i made an apointment with a younger dr and demanded they send me for a breathing test at hospital turned out it was asthma wish i had that consultant in front of me now .so we trust them to much now and they think there gods have they put you on a cardio mashine the should sorry to stick my nose in but to dismiss your problem because bloods are ok sound terrible ive seen so many mistakes in nhs ive just about lost faith there not all angels its the money consultants get there botherd about they have a great lifstyle my brotheres one .paul

Yes I have gone back to GP who still says my symtoms are that of lymphoma b symtoms now. I was refered on normal waiting list to another hospital as it had a 16 day waiting list and my local hospital had a 250 day plus waiting list. Now im being referred on 2 week cancer rule or something and have an appt on 24th july. Hopefully this one will do thier job

I dont have any other symptoms apart from the fever. I supposidly had tonsillitis 2 weeks ago even though my throat wasnt sore at all! I think the glands in my neck are up too. Im travelling home from holiday today and hope to get in with the doctor tomorrow! Are you checking your temperature constantly? I cant help but check mine all the time! Do you always have a temp or does it sometimes be normal? Mine was normal for a few days and now its up again. I feel drained constantly and nausous. Its stopping me sleeping as I wake up every hour feeling hot and sweaty. You must be going crazy with worry too! Are you managing to hold it together? Im really struggling

No mine goes up and down but mostly when doing light walking or housework it will jump from 37.5 or 38 to 39.5, 40 sometimes and im dripping with sweat, or i will be sat here on my sofa feeling hot and sweaty and ill take my temp and its 39. The fever has been going on now since jan, altho not sure if its linked to all my illnesses. Properly started in april i think when i was over everything. They have ruled out everything else ive had numerous blood tests and xrays before i was referred to rule out everything else.

What do you mean you arent sure if its linked to all your illnesses? It must be awful having a fever ongoing that long! Mines only been a couple of weeks and I’m drained!

They had to rule out it wasnt linked to having a chest or throat infection. They first of all linked it to that. They started to listen to me in april once they all died down sent me for bloods. Had bloods in feb but just come back saying still had infection and monthly in april and may then they started taking me seriously.

Did you have a sore throat or anything? I don’t understand how I’ve supposidly had tonsillitis yet had no throat pain. Hope I can see my GP tomorrow, the worry is driving me crazy. Ive been trailing this website all day driving myself mad!

Yes i had a sore throat in the Jan went away with antibiotics, came back a week later where i lost my voice, more antibiotics went away came back about 2 weeks later. As well as a chest infection at one point i was taking 2 lots of antibiotics one for throat and one for chest infection

Hi the best thing for you to do is go onto google i know its effected you doing that but theres a way to look things up without thinking you have everything just put in what do tonsils do you will see then that tonsils are designed to stop germs getting down your thoat and also they are loaded with white bloods cells they release to kill infections white blood cells are part of our immune system that kill viruses germs bacteria you may have slightly inflamed tonsils you dont nesseserily ave to be in pain the drs looke down your throat and seen them a bit inflamed as i said earlier your body allso heats up if theres an infection or virus . And you have started thinking all sorts is it cancer your thinking probably just an infection thats not quite gone yet i sufferd anxiaty i used to suddenly break out in a sweat and have to change my shirt but the anxiaty was because i i w struggling to breath because of missdiagnosed asthma i truly thaught my lungs had been damage by a drug they gave me for crohns so it was the chicken and the egge .anxiatys a horrible thing its fear realy so dont worry . Dr will tell tom if it was throat cancer you would certainly feel much worse .paul ps musicismylifes just about sumed it up

Thanks for your reply. I get what you are saying but for weeks before this I’ve been waking from my sleep shaking so I feel like this might be going on for a while. I really do hope its from my throat and nothing more serious. Its been over 2 weeks now, I’ve had a week of antibiotics and my throat swab was clear which is why I’m concerned this is something more serious
