I’m an 18 year old male!
So last April (2018) I was admitted to hospital for frequent collapsing, weakness, frequent infections and just generally sick it started in December 2017 my gp tried his best with different medication but it didn’t work and I had an mri done when I was in hospital but whilst in hospital I found a lump under my right armpit it could have been there longer I’m not too sure it was when I was admitted I actually found it and the ward doctor told me to bring it up with my gp but anytime after I was discharged I didn’t think of actually making an appointment for that I didn’t think it was serious so whenever I was in the gp for something else I’d bring it up but he said because I wasn’t there for that reason I had to make a separate appointment and I just never did but in the end I made the appointment for it in January and he sent me to the breast check clinic I had that appointment about a month ago and then I had to go back for an ultrasound today when they done the ultrasound dismorning they also done a biopsy I went alone because I don’t want to worry any of my family as there might be nothing to worry about and the doctor said “I don’t think it’s anything serious but I do strongly advise you to bring a family member along to collect the results next week” now to me that kind of sounds like she only told me that she doesn’t think it’s anything serious just so I wouldn’t worry but regardless I’m going to worry and I don’t want to tell my family just Incase it’s nothing for them to worry about!
The reason I posted this is just to get advise really about If I should be worried or if I should listen to the doctor and I have a few questions
1) Does a doctor always tell patients not to worry whilst waiting for results even if they think it’s something serious?
2) The lump is under my right arm and isn’t sore not completely solid but also not very soft it is kind of loose could this be anything other than the big C?
3) And what should I expect after the biopsy because it’s really painful (like it’s burning) and it’s red around the dressing haven’t taken the dressing off so don’t know what the actual wound looks like is burning and redness normal?
4) What should I expect when getting my results? And I really don’t want to bring a family member to get the results do you think I’d be stupid going on my own?

I am new to this myself, having received a diagnosis last month which I was expecting to be routine so went by myself thinking nothing of it.
It sounds to me as though you have already borne more than enough on your own shoulders and have been amazingly brave.
I understand your feelings for not wanting to take family, but would really recommend taking someone with you. Do you have a friend you confide in that would go along? Fingers crossed it is nothing, but if it is there is a load of information you have to take on board and questions you may ask that are then too she’ll shock to take the answers in. Having talked about it to someone already will mean they can pick up in things you may miss.
I really feel for you and hope you will take someone. People will want to support you and having someone to talk to not matter what happens will make things easier.
