Hi, your advice please..
Its been a pants year or two and Im all out of courage. I went on saturday to have my fingernail removed but the finger pain block med didnt work and they didnt have any other so I have to go back. Feeling very guilty at the ask, but do you think I could have it done under general anasthetic?

Hi,
I’m not a nurse but I am a melanoma patient & have had several moles removed under a local. I don’t think they like giving a general for small procedures unless it’s for an exceptional reason. You can certainly ask but I don’t know if they will do it unless the local anaesthetic doesn’t work when increased. Some people do have a problem with a very low pain threshold (my niece does) when it comes to a local. There is no harm in asking. Good luck & please let us know how you go on,

I think Angie T has given you very good advice.A general anaesthetic for small procedures isn’t usually given unless there is a medical reason to do so.
You can ask your medical team or specialist nurse at about this but I’m not sure it will be considered unless the increased local anaesthetic doesn’t work.
Many people get nervous at the prospect of having procedures done, but the staff are there to look after you and reassure you. It can also help to bring someone with you for support.

Thank you so much..
In the end I had it done perfectly with a ring block with longer lasting pain relief..held up my hand after to stop the slight throb, took over the counter pain relief, soaked off dressing with cooler boiled water and her presto, no pain now, is healing great. Did not feel a thing. I had it done on 13th Dec, it’s now 22nd
For me Lignocane was not a long enough lasting or completely numbing, so if I were to have is again would ask for the longer lasting more numbing stuff.

Good evening,
I have noticed you have recently had a procedure I had done yesterday, (or at least it sounds similar).
Partial nail removal and biopsy?, just wondering if you removed the dressing yourself?, I have been told to call the hospital to book a redressing within 2 weeks.

Hi Liz,
They took my whole nail off and biopsy. I took my dressing off after two days, it was stuck to the flesh so soaked it gently in warm salty boiled water, did the trick and it soon dried out. I was told to do this and redress it.
